At the University of Greifswald’s Condensed Matter Theory group, Institute of Physics,  in the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, there is a job vacancy, expected to be available as soon as possible, subject to budgetary regulations, for a full-time

Teaching and Research Assistant.

The contract is limited to a period of 3 years and is suitable for part-time employment. Payment will be made according to pay group 13 TV-L Wissenschaft. There is the option of a fixed-term extension of the employment.

The Condensed Matter Theory group focusses on the following topics: superconductivity, magnetism, superconducting spintronics, Bose-Einstein condensation, topological quantum systems, geometric quantum phases, electronic order and electronic correlations, quantum many body systems, quantum transport, non-equilibrium systems. We offer a dynamic, creative working environment that provides you with extensive opportunities to develop and implement your research activities independently. We are particularly interested in international research activities and modern developments within the areas of condensed matter physics mentioned above. As a founding member of the Baltic Consortium of Theoretical Physics, together with our partner institutions, we link and organise activities within the research areas of quantum technologies and quantum materials across the Baltic Sea region.

Job description:

  • Academic services in research and teaching, including:
  • Development of own research profile
  • Conception of and participation in research projects
  • Publications and conference contributions on an international level
  • Participation in international collaborative networks and co-organisation of international workshops
  • Design and teaching of classes in the degree courses in Physics (two 90-minute classes per week during terms), supervision of B.Sc. and M.Sc. students
  • Academic self-administration at the Institute of Physics
  • The position on offer is aimed at academics wishing to gain further qualification. Tasks will therefore be transferred that are conducive to the preparation of a habilitation or equivalent.

Job requirements:

  • Completed, excellent doctorate with a focus on theoretical condensed matter physics
  • In-depth knowledge in at least one of the topics of superconductivity, magnetism, electronic correlations, topological materials, and quantum many-body physics
  • Profound skills in analytical and numerical methods
  • High degree of motivation and independence as well as teamwork skills
  • Scientific publications in internationally renowned journals
  • Excellent English language skills

Desirable:

  • Teaching experience
  • International experience
  • Experience in acquisition of external funding
  • Experience in scientific collaboration
  • If not present, willingness to acquire basic knowledge of the German language
