The summer school will look into several interesting topics: How can we make mobility and energy more sustainable? How can greenwashing be recognised? And how can artificial intelligence help to make our way of life more environmentally friendly?
During this two-week project, the international guests will investigate various aspects of sustainability and discuss related topics with experts from the participating universities. The programme includes presentations on topics such as the links between technology and sustainability, the use of renewable energies, sustainable tourism and climate ethics. This allows participants to discover new approaches and ideas for a sustainable future.
More than 190 students from 44 countries applied for this year’s in-person part of the summer school. 30 of them were selected and will be coming to Mecklenburg-Vorpommern. They are studying environmental science and engineering, economics, finance, tourism, communication, law, and health sciences. During the summer school, they will get to know all of the universities involved in the programme and gain an insight into studies in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern. In addition to workshops and tours of laboratories, the programme also features excursions to Hiddensee and to the peatlands surrounding Greifswald, tours of the campuses and towns, as well as joint leisure activities such as BBQs.
The official kick-off will be made at an event open to the public on 3 September at 3.30 p.m. in Stralsund’s MakerPort [de]. At the event, experts from the industry, politics and academia will discuss strategies for reduction and substitution. They will approach the question regarding which areas society should do without and in which areas we can rely on alternative solutions.
A further public lecture will follow on 4 September at 6.00 p.m.: Dr. Susann Görlinger will talk about the reduction of flight emissions for academic travel under the title “Stay grounded, keep connected – flight reduction in academia” at the Alfried Krupp Wissenschaftskolleg Greifswald (Institute for Advanced Studies). Anyone interested is welcome to attend either of the events.
