You can get a foretaste in our 2023 programme booklet.

Recommendations for weekend activities

At the weekends you have the opportunity to discover Germany on your own. We have put together some suggestions for weekend excursions for you below:

Usedom Island

With its 1906 hours of sunshine a year, Usedom is known as Germany's sunniest place. The island consists of a German and a Polish part. The sun invites you to take a stroll along the promenade and beach, which you can round off with a dip in the Baltic Sea. Usedom has many attractions to offer, whether it's a visit to Germany's oldest pier in Ahlbeck or an afternoon at the colourful butterfly farm in Trassenheide. You can get there quite comfortably in 1-2 hours by train.

Examples of activities:

Island of Rügen

Rügen is Germany's largest island. The coast is characterised by a multitude of sandy beaches, Bodden waters and Wiecken as well as peninsulas and headlands. Unique and impressive here is a hike through the Jasmund National Park (UNESCO World Heritage Site) to the chalk cliffs! Here you can also experience the typical environment of the Baltic Sea and a walk on the beach can be concluded with a cool down in the sea.

Examples of activities:

Mecklenburg Lake District

1117 natural lakes in a total of 8 nature parks form Europe's largest closed lake district. Here you can see for yourself the beauty of nature in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern on land and on water. Whether on land or water - there is more than enough here for an eventful weekend! For example, you can simply rent canoes at one of the numerous canoe rental stations and then follow your own route!

Examples of activities:

Cities like Rostock, Berlin, Hamburg or Szczecin (Poland) are also not far away. Let yourself be inspired!

Application requirements

Perhaps you would like to take up studies at the University of Greifswald and get to know the university and city beforehand? Then you have come to the right place!

Please note that you must be at least 18 years old to participate in the Greifswald Summer.
