There are three staff councils at the University of Greifswald: the General Staff Council, the Staff Council for Non-Academic Staff and the Staff Council for Academic Staff. These act according to the regulations of the Landespersonalvertretungsgesetz [de] (State Staff Representation Law) of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern (PersVG M-V).
The Representatives for Disabled Employees are the contact point for all matters that affect an individual or the severely disabled people as a group.
Tasks of the staff councils:
The General Staff Council is responsible for matters that affect several staff councils of a department and cannot be dealt with by the individual staff councils (section 74 PersVG M-V). It is not superior to the individual staff councils.
The staff councils for the academic and non-academic staff have numerous rights of participation and involvement in personnel matters, social and organisational issues for the respective employee groups they represent.
The Representatives for Disabled Employees promote the integration and participation of the University’s disabled employees into the work process, represents their interests and supports them with help and advice.
The staff representatives and the representatives for disabled employees are elected by the members of the employee group they represent for a period of four years.

The staff representatives of the University of Greifswald and University Medicine Greifswald are separate bodies.
