Elections for University Bodies
General information on the elections for university bodies
Members of the University of Greifswald take part in the self-government of their university. They are represented in the university bodies by the following member groups:
- Professorial staff (professors, junior professors)
- Students
- Members of academic staff (academic and artistic staff, doctoral candidates)
- All other staff members
The representatives of these member groups in the Senate and in the Faculty Councils are elected by the university members in direct, free, equal, and secret elections. The tasks and responsibilities of the university bodies are stipulated in the Landeshochschulgesetz (State Higher Education Act) and the University of Greifswald’s Grundordnung (Basic Regulations).
The term of office for the student representatives is one year, the representatives of the other member groups serve for two years.
These pages provide you with the official announcements of the Returning Officer that contain all of the information on how you may exercise your right to vote. In addition to the announcement of the election, the pages also name the candidates and the election results will be published here later on. The election announcement stipulates the dates for the election and more detailed information on how the online elections are held. Furthermore, you can also find forms and information regarding the procedure for nomination as a candidate and on the possibility of exercising your right to postal voting. The pages also display the election results of previous years.
Important information on the online election
The elections for the Senate and Faculty Councils will be held as online elections from 9 to 12 January 2024. Access to the elections system is granted via the user account that the members of the community at the University of Greifswald use for fulfilling their work tasks or in combination with their studies. This user account [de] is created automatically for members of the university community pursuant to § 50(1) and § 55(2) Item 6 State Higher Education Act, i.e. for all public sector employees whose primary employer is the university, the enrolled students, doctoral candidates, and the contract lecturers. Therefore, you should usually already have a user account (account management). If this is not the case and you are entitled to vote, you can request [de] a user account at the University Computer Centre. The University of Greifswald’s Wahlordnung (Electoral Regulations) [de] stipulates who is entitled to vote and who is eligible for election. We recommend that you submit your request as soon as possible in order to be able to take part in the online election; of course your right to postal voting remains unaffected.
PLEASE NOTE: Although voters are initially authenticated via their personal user account, the technical transmission of user data to the Online Election System occurs in anonymised form to ensure the secret casting of votes, as required by the legal provisions for elections (§ 53 LHG M-V, §§ 3(1), 26(3) WahlO).
