The Department of History at the University of Greifswald’s Faculty of Arts and Humanities is seeking to fill the position of
Junior Professor (W1) of Ancient History
(without tenure track)
as soon as possible.
We are looking for an early-career researcher, who is able to represent research and teaching in the field of ancient history and has proven their expertise through corresponding publications and a broad range of teaching experience in this period of history. The successful candidate will be expected to participate in university bodies. The professor will be required to contribute towards the teaching provided by the Department of History in bachelor’s and master’s degree courses, as well as teacher training degree courses.

The necessary qualifications are defined in § 62(1) of the Landeshochschulgesetz - LHG M-V (State Higher Education Act): a university degree, teaching aptitude and special expertise in academic work which is generally documented by an outstanding doctoral degree. If you have worked as a teaching and/or research assistant or as a graduate assistant prior to or after obtaining your doctorate, the times in which you completed your doctorate and in which you were employed may not exceed a total of nine years.
In accordance with § 62(2) LHG M-V, junior professors are appointed for a period of three years as a temporary civil servant. In case of a positive evaluation after the third year, the contract is extended for a further three years.
