The University of Greifswald has a strong partner with the Alfried Krupp Wissenschaftskolleg Greifswald (Institute for Advanced Studies), an academically independent institution, belonging to the Stiftung Alfried Krupp Kolleg Greifswald foundation, which was founded in 2000 by the Alfried Krupp von Bohlen und Halbach Foundationhttps://www.krupp-stiftung.de/, the state of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern and the University of Greifswald. Work at the Alfried Krupp Wissenschaftskolleg aims to support science and research at the University of Greifswald and to make Greifswald nationally and internationally visible as a scientific location. To achieve these goals, the Institute awards fellowships to selected national and international scholars, who come to Greifswald as Senior or Junior Fellows for one year or six months - released from their usual academic duties - to work on a substantial research project and maintain close relations to researchers at the town’s university. With its Fellows Programme and numerous conferences, lectures and summer schools, the Alfried Krupp Wissenschaftskolleg is a centre of academic activities located right in the historical heart of the University and Hanseatic Town of Greifswald, which has effects on the town and region that go beyond academia.
